How to Mend a Broken Heart

2013 is shaping up to be an interesting year in the Bioperspective studios. The bimonthly international multimedia Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery is proving to be more than just another illustration client. My roll as Art Editor and primary illustrator of this periodical capitalizes on my years on staff at the Austin and Epworth cardiac departments. Satisfying... this is an area I really love. And illustrating extensive, in-depth articles on a regular basis is expanding my knowledge base tremendously. Actually it is inspiring other artistic pursuits as well....

My latest exhibition 'How to Mend a Broken Heart' runs in Melbourne, Australia from the 15th of January to the 2nd of February. I've made paintings of little people in my cardiac illustrations on the covers of a series of vintage encyclopedias. The 1950's calendar style figures are hands-on at work in today's cutting edge surgical procedures. It's old and new, vintage with modern, art meets science - some of my favorite juxtapositions rolled into one fab little show.

The books will be on sale in person and online at Lord Coconut, but if you fancy something for the wall instead, a limited number of prints will be available too. And possible something special in time for Valentine's Day 2013 too... TBA.

Hope to see you at the Opening on the 22nd of January but if not you can check it all out at http://www.lordcoconut.com/exhibition/broken-heart/
